Essential grammar for teachers of English

The essential grammar course comprises six 3-hour sessions, covering the following topics:

1 time, tense and aspect
2 modal verbs
3 active and passive
4 indicatives and subjunctives
5 conditionals
6 clauses: finite and non-finite, relative, adverbial

During each session, we look at the major grammatical issues relating to meaning and form, while also including relevant pronunciation features, with reference to the major varieties of English, namely British and North American English.

Throughout the course, we establish the essential terminology that is used to describe and analyse language, with a clear focus on what is important for language teachers (and learners) to know.
